Stocks of pharmaceutical companies are expected to gain next week due to bargain buying by some domestic mutual funds, following a 5% decline in the Nifty Pharma index in December so far. Investors need to be selective in the sector, we prefer pharma over information technology at
the moment. This week, the Nifty Pharma index underperformed the benchmark Nifty 50. The 10-
stock index closed the week with gains of 0.5%, against a rise of 1% in the Nifty 50. Cues from
broader markets are expected to be supportive next week, with the benchmark indices pegged to
rise, albeit moderately, following bullish rollovers to the Nifty 50's January futures contract on
Thursday.
