* AUTOMOBILE: Fiat looking at entering into a vehicle finance pact with Tata Capital.

* AVIATION: The Supreme Court has directed the Directorate General of Civil Aviation to review the 'fare bands' furnished by airlines to make pricing more transparent for air travellers; court rules passengers should not pay transaction fee.

* BANKING: Chief executives of leading corporate houses favour granting banking licences to conglomerates. Senior finance ministry official says that finance ministry has suggested in its response to the Reserve Bank of India to ensure a non-controversial start to new banking licences; indicates no big corporate house was expected in the first set of applications.

* BUDGET: Government mulls higher tax exemption on savings schemes to wean investors away from gold. Finance Minister P. Chidambaram plans to introduce insurance and pension bills in the Budget. Finance Minister plans to stick to a five-year road map for fiscal consolidation by eyeing a 20% on year increase in revenue without raising taxes, but mostly relying on spending cuts. Government plans to allow tax benefits in the Rajiv Gandhi Equity Savings Scheme every year.

* EDUCATION: RELIANCE INDUSTRIES' Chairman Mukesh Ambani's team begins acquiring land in Maharashtra 's Raigad district to set up a research and innovation university.

* ENERGY: Wind energy companies may add only 1,500 MW or fresh capacity in 2012-13 (Apr-Mar) compared with the target of 2,500 MW.

* FERTILISERS: India Ratings has maintained its stable outlook on fertiliser companies. Junior Fertiliser Minister Srikant Jena alleges that fertiliser companies have pocketed 10 bln rupees from the subsidy bill during Fertiliser Minister M.K. Alagiri's regime. Group of Ministers, likely to be headed by Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, has been constituted to review the urea pricing policy.

* FMCG: Private equity fund, Sequoia India , is looking to invest around 1.35 bln rupees in Cholayil, which manufactures ayurvedic range of soaps Medimix.

* FOREIGN DIRECT INVESTMENT: The Jawaharlal Nehru Port 's container terminal project to get 4.4-bln-rupee foreign direct investment from Dubai-owned port company, DP World.

* INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY: Hewlett-Packard wins order from the Uttar Pradesh government to supply 1.5 mln laptops, beating competition from HCL INFOSYSTEMS, Acer, and Lenovo.

* INFRASTRUCTURE: Eight companies, including BHARAT HEAVY ELECTRICALS, vie for a 40-bln-rupee contract to provide 486 coaches to the Delhi Metro Rail Corp.

* LAW: The central government will submit an affidavit in the Supreme Court addressing concerns over safeguarding small traders' interests.

* MARKET: Dubai Gold & Commodities Exchange is likely to launch Sensex futures by March. Bank of America-Merrill Lynch's head of research, Jyotivardhan Jaipuria believes recovery in China 's economy will hit investments in India .

* MEDIA: Maharashtra government to scrap decision of levying service charge on multiplex tickets.

* METALS & MINING: Orissa Minerals Development Co wins legal battle in reasserting its rights over three mining leases.

* OIL & GAS: Oil ministry moves Cabinet note for doubling price of natural gas produced by OIL AND NATURAL GAS CORP and OIL INDIA to $8.0-$8.5 per mmBtu in the current year, and that for RELIANCE INDUSTRIES from April 2014.

* POWER: The RBI has suggested suspending ongoing bilateral schemes between power distribution companies in three states--Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Haryana--and their lenders.

* TELECOM: The telecom department has issued auction guidelines for spectrum in 1800 Mhz, 900 Mhz and 800 Mhz bands. Vodafone India has said the company was inclined to raise tariff in line with peers, but hasn't decided its circle-wise moves yet.

* TRADE: The European Union is looking to include Budget sops in free trade pact with India .
