* AUTO: A final date for imposing penalty on General Motors India for its Tavera multi-utility vehicle cannot be given, road minister Oscar Fernandes said.

* BANKS: Finance ministry has budgeted capital infusion of 140 bln rupees in 20 state-owned banks for the current financial year ending March. Difficulties faced by smaller Indian banks to achieve Basel III targets could lead to consolidation in the banking sector, Standard & Poor's said. RBI received $10.1 bln from banks till date from its foreign exchange swap window. RBI has directed private banks to abide by the Banking Law Amendments Act, 2012, notwithstanding any other clause. * CHEMICALS: Central Board of Excise and Customs has imposed anti-dumping duty on imports of the chemical dichloromethane exported by European Union , US or South Korea for six months.

* ENERGY: The Petroleum ministry has allowed companies to start producing oil and gas from discoveries even before field investment plans are approved.

* AVIATION: The specification in the non-compete clause of their MoU to form a joint venture by Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines, allows for Tata Sons to operate low cost airline in partnership with AirAsia. 

-The aviation ministry has objected to certain clauses in a draft concession agreement prepared by the Planning Commission to privatise six state-run airports.

* BANKS: The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corp has discontinued retail broking and retail depository services business in India with immediate effect. Bank Internasional Indonesia, a subsidiary of the Maybank Group, will open its first branch in India on Monday.

* CAPITAL GOODS: The Cabinet has cleared a proposal to sign a MoU with China that allows Chinese power equipment manufacturers to set up service centres in India . 

* COAL: The CBI, which is carrying out probe into the Coalgate scam, may book some more private companies soon which were allegedly awarded blocks in violation of norms. 

* COURTS: The Supreme Court has ordered the Central Bureau of Investigation to probe eight criminalities, other than those related to spectrum allocation, found in the Niira Radia tapes containing telephonic conversations of the corporate lobbyist. The court observed that the conversations suggest "connivance" between the government and private persons. 

- The Bombay High Court has directed Writer Packers and Movers not to use the name 'Writer' and remove it from their website till final orders after PN Writer & Co accused the company of violating intellectual property right. 

* ENERGY: Renowned entrepreneur C Sivasankaran's WinWinD, a wind turbine maker based in Finland , has filed for bankruptcy. 

* EXCHANGES: The settlement guarantee fund of the National Spot Exchange was frequently misused to fulfil the payment obligations of defaulting members, a report by Grant Thornton said. 

* REGULATORY: A study commissioned by Securities and Exchange Board of India has proposed lowering or elimination of securities transaction tax on protective-put and hedged-call positions in order to boost the options market. SEBI is set to tweak a number of existing regulations to bring those in line with the new Foreign Portfolio Investors regime, into India .

* REAL ESTATE: Hirco has defaulted on payments to lenders for its two large 10-bln-rupee-plus townships in Panvel and Chennai. If Hirco defaults, HDFC with 5-bln-rupee exposure will auction the Chennai property. Coastal Projects may restructure loans worth 37 bln rupees. 

* RETAIL: After months of investigating allegations that Walmart violated foreign exchange norms, the Enforcement Directorate has decided to close the case against the US retail giant. Private equity firm New Silk Route has acquired a majority stake in Moshe's Fine Foods. 

* TAX: Entry taxes, or taxes levied on goods while entering a state, are set to be subsumed under the Goods and Services Tax. 

* TELECOM: The defence ministry has agreed to swap 3G spectrum it holds with the telecom department for frequencies in another band. Questioning income tax department's move to claim tax over shares issued by Pune unit of Vodafone to its parent company, the British telecom major has moved Bombay High Court to seek relief from the tax demand. The state government's draft policy for installation of cell towers atop buildings has totally ignored the guidelines issued by Department of Telecommunications, said activists.

 * AVIATION: Etihad Airways has signed a Letter of Intent with Air-India to buy five Boeing 777-200 LR aircraft.

* BROADCAST: Peepul Capital Advisors Managing Director Srini Raju has said sluggish market conditions and economic stress have delayed its exit from Associated Broadcasting Co, which runs television channels under brandname TV9.

* ECONOMY: India is seeing a turnaround both in terms of growth in manufacturing and domestic demand, and buoyancy in exports, Trade Minister Anand Sharma said.

- The International Monetary Fund has cautioned that emerging economies such as India will need to employ "policy buffers wisely" if they confront significant capital outflows on US Fed Reserve's tapering of monetary stimulus.

* E-COMMERCE: Flipkart.com has mopped up a further $160 mln from mostly new investors, taking the total in the fifth round to $360 mln.

* IMPORT: Gold and silver imports plunged by over 80% to $0.8 bln in September on account of a slew of measures taken by the government to curb inbound shipments.

* LISTING: Technology entrepreneur Romesh Wadhwaniplans to take three of his portfolio companies public. Symphony Telecacould be the first to go public in the next 18-24 months, followed by two other firms of Symphony Technology Group.

* POWER: Andhra Pradesh government is likely to impose the Essential Services Maintenance Act for restoration of power supply in the state.

- The government plans to invite global bids for an interstate transmission projects worth over 200 bln rupees in the next two months to connect power generation projects in states, especially in Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu.

* REGULATORS: SEBI has decided to review the existing mechanism for trade annulment and put in place a clearly defined system for trade cancellations and subsequent penalties.

* RETAIL: Reckitt Benckiser ( India ), which sells products under Dettol and Strepsils brands, is awaiting regulatory approvals to launch a slew of products from its global portfolio in India .

* TELECOM: The National Security Council Secretariat wants to make it mandatory for Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd to invest in research and development to reduce dependence on imports.

- The government is looking to increase customs duty on telecom network equipment required for broadband services. SingTel group has initiated talks to buy the stake held by the Bharti group in its international long-distance telephony venture.

* ADANI PORTS AND SPECIAL ECONOMIC ZONE: The environment ministry has levied a 2-bln rupees fine on the compnay's Mundra Port and SEZ for damaging mangroves, creeks and the local environment at the project site.

* COAL INDIA: The finance ministry is pushing the company to buy back 5% of its shares if it is not able to proceed with its public issue due to poor market conditions. Has offered supplies to all power units that don't feature in the list of entities with which the company has to sign fuel-sharing agreement, but are
commissioned and need immediate coal linkage to start power generation 

* DALMIA BHARAT: Cement despatches increased by nearly 10% on year to 768,000 tn in August.

* FINANCIAL TECHNOLOGIES (INDIA): Arm National Spot Exchange has declared 153.7 mln rupees pay-out as compared to 1.74 bln rupee due Tuesday. The special panel of government officials looking into the payment default crisis at the National Spot Exchange will submit its report on Sep 12.

* ANDHRA BANK: Has decided to drop plan to cut its base rate as announced on Monday after the Reserve Bank of India announced steps to curb liquidity.

* BAJAJ AUTO: Maharashtra Labour Minister Hasan Mushrif will, within a week, meet the Bajaj Auto management and the workers' union to try and end the deadlock between the two sides.

* CAN FIN HOMES: The company is looking at branch expansion for market penetration. 

* CIPLA: Has completed acquisition of 100% stake in Cipla Medpro South Africa for an aggregate consideration of 27.1 bln rupees. 

* COAL INDIA: The company which plans to invest 60 bln rupees in foreign acquisitions in Apr-Mar (2013-14), is evaluating buying stakes in three coal assets in Australia . The company will enter into seven-eight more fuel supply pacts with NTPC for 4,000 MW generation capacities today.

* KARUR VYSYA BANK: Will cut its base rate and benchmark prime lending rate by 25 basis points each to 10.50% and 15.50% on Thursday. 

* NIIT TECHNOLOGIES: Posted consolidated net profit of 532.0 mln rupees for Apr-Jun, down 7.5% on year. The company plans to hire around 400 staff by March for executing a contract from the Airports Authority of India.
