* AUTO: Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India reported an 11.1% year-on-year rise in total sales during June to 252,114 units. Honda Cars India's total domestic volumes increased by more than three-fold to 9,297 units as company sold 4,965 units of its recently-launched Amaze compact sedan in June. Yamaha Motor India total sales shot up 52% on year to 49,168 units in June from 32,358 units.

* BANKING: The Reserve Bank of India has received 26 applications for setting up a bank. Those in the fray include Tata Sons, Indiabulls Housing Finance and BAJAJ FINSERV, ADITYA BIRLA NUVO. RBI has called for uniformity and fair pricing for services provided by banks to its customers and said that banks must not discriminate between their customers at home and non-home branches. UAE Exchange India , part of United Arab Emirates-based UAE Exchange, has also applied for a banking licence.

* CEMENT: Lafarge, the world's largest cement maker, plans to expand its India operations across the country from the northeast despite an anticipated slowdown.

* COAL: The government will suspend development work in all coal blocks of the 13 companies named by the CBI in a corruption scandal.

* ENERGY: State-owned oil marketing companies are planning to float tenders in July to procure around 600 mln ltr of ethanol. The sharp depreciation of the rupee against the US dollar will increase the revenue loss burden of oil marketing companies, threatening to undo gains expected to be realized owing to the partial deregulation of diesel and lower prices of crude oil, an ICRA report said.

* INVESTMENT: The government is set to ease foreign direct investment limits in various sectors, Industrial Policy and Promotion Secretary Saurabh Chandra said.

* MARKETS: Trading positions worth around 3-5 bln rupees in the options segment on NSE have come under the regulatory scanner on suspicion that these could have been pre-negotiated trades between buyers and sellers.

* MONSOON: Jun 1-Jul 1 rainfall was 222.5 mm, 29% above normal, said Indian Meteorological Department.

* POWER: The government has put 23 big-ticket power projects, which were stalled for want of fuel supply linkages and environmental clearances, on the fast track. These projects are estimated to generate 23,000 MW of power capacity. Tamil Nadu is close to signing power purchase agreements with four companies to secure long-term supply at an average rate of 4.91 rupees per unit.

* REGULATORY: RBI will have greater scope to cut interest rates once the pressure on the rupee eases, Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Council Chairman C. Rangarajan said.

* RETAIL: Corporate Affairs Minister Sachin Pilot said his ministry is examining the probe report submitted by a government-appointed committee on whether Walmart lobbied in India in contravention of Indian laws.

* TELECOM: Vodafone's Indian arm has offered to pay 40 bln rupees to the government in return for the permission to hold on to 2G spectrums in three key cities after the expiry of its licence for these airwaves in November. American Tower Corp's deal to buy Tower Vision's telecom towers in India
has hit a hurdle over dispute in price.

* TRADE: Economic Affairs Secretary Arvind Mayaram is on a three-day visit to Kuwait to hold bilateral consultations and attract the Gulf nation's sovereign wealth fund to invest in India .
