Pharma Stocks Outlook for the week – 03 to 07.07.2017

Stocks of pharmaceutical companies are likely to rise next week, as they continue their rally, after
falling during the last few months due to dismal earnings for Jan-Mar and a bleak outlook for the
current financial year started April. After falling to a 52-week low of 8634.90 points late last month,
the Nifty Pharma index has risen nearly 7% in a month. While companies had reported steep declines in profits for the March quarter, the outlook over the long term is seen weighed down by uncertainty around approvals and pricing pressure due to consolidation among distribution channels in the US and greater competition. Earlier this week, the US Food and Drug Administration had implemented a policy to expedite reviews of generic drug applications for medicines with limited competition. The regulator also listed over 200 drugs that were off-patent and off-exclusivity, but didn't have an approved generic version.
