Stocks of major pharmaceutical companies are seen trading marginally higher next week
as investors would look for safer defensive stocks such as pharmaceuticals and fast
moving consumer goods amid the expected volatility in the market.
Investors will also look for Cyprus Parliament's vote on an alternative plan to restructure
its banking sector yesterday after the earlier proposal of taxing bank deposits was
rejected. Also with a truncated week due to two holidays--Wednesday for Holi and
Friday for Good Friday--traders would remain cautious while investing.
The National Pharmaceuticals Pricing Policy, 2012 caps retail prices of formulations
made from 348 essential or bulk drugs at the weighted average price of all drug brands
that have more than 1% market share in a particular segment. The list includes 64
antibiotics, 27 cardiovascular treatments, and 24 hormonal drugs, as well as
multivitamins and pain relievers. The list covers almost 30% of drugs sold in India,
which is largely a branded generics market.
