Bank Stocks Outlook For The Week - 01 To 05.10.2018
Stocks of banks are seen remaining under pressure in the coming week due to the ongoing liquidity
crisis at Infrastructure Lending & Finance Corp and as investor sentiment towards the financial
services sector remains bleak. However, volumes are seen minimal as market participants are likely
to stay on the sidelines ahead of the Reserve Bank of India's three-day bi-monthly monetary policy
meet starting Wednesday. Most participants expect the central bank to hike the repo rate by 25
basis points amid volatility in the domestic currency and elevated crude oil prices. Further, the market will await announcements addressing the liquidity crunch in the system, which will lend direction to shares of banks. From a stock-specific perspective, shares of Vijaya Bank and Bank of Baroda will be in focus as their boards are scheduled to meet on Saturday to mull merger of bad loan-laden Dena
Bank with them. Any further development in this respect is seen impacting stocks of all public sector banks.
