* AGRICULTURE: The country received 3.7 mm rainfall today, 44% below the normal weighted average of 6.5 mm for the day.

* AUTOMOTIVE: Hyundai Motor India Limited is currently working on sequencing product introductions such as sports utility vehicles, multipurpose vehicles and sedans in the domestic market.

* AVIATION: Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal and a few others states have agreed to reduce value added tax on aviation turbine fuel.

* BANKING: The Reserve Bank of India has urged banks to explore the possibility of enlisting services of business correspondents to carry out various currency management functions such as distribution of coins and bank notes.

* COAL: Supreme Court has asked the government to furnish details of allotments of coal blocks to private companies since 1993. Supreme Court has reserved its order on whether CBI requires government's sanction to probe senior officials in coal block allocation case.

* ECONOMY: Government has deposited a total of 4.8 bln rupees so far in the beneficiary accounts under the direct benefit transfer scheme. Government-appointed Damodaran committee, set-up for improving overall business climate in India , has submitted its report to the corporate affairs ministry.

* EDUCATION: The government will allow foreign universities to operate independently in India , set up campuses and offer degrees without having a
local partner.

* ELECTRONICAL: The Centre's bid to subsidise two semi-conductor chip fabrication units, or fabs, in India is expected to come up for approval in the next Cabinet meeting, likely to be held on Thursday.

* ENERGY: Belgian company Tractebel Engineering has fully acquired Chennai- based Cethar Consulting Engineers.  Japan 's Toshiba Corp has acquired Hyderabad-based Vijai Electricals' transmission and distribution business for $200 mln.

* CONSUMER GOODS: Carlyle Group and TPG Capital are front-runners to acquire $100 mln minority stake in Allied Blenders & Distillers.

* INFRASTRUCTURE: Ministry of Railways has said total revenue of Indian Railways during Apr-Aug stood at 544.63 bln rupees, up 10.3% year on year.

* OIL AND GAS: ONGC Videsh Ltd, the overseas arm of OIL AND NATURAL GAS CORP, and its partners OIL INDIA and INDIAN OIL CORPORATION are mulling buying the 11% stake that Malaysia 's Petronas has decided to give up in a $20-bln oil project in Venezuela .

* PHARMACEUTICAL: Expert committee on compulsory licensing has recommended that department of industrial policy and promotion issue a compulsory license for manufacture pf Bristol-Myers Squibb Co's anti-cancer drug Dasatinib to two companies.

* REGULATORY: The Securities and Exchange Board of India will soon announce some steps to boost liquidity in the corporate bond market. The Securities and Exchange Board of India's new policy framework for the mutual fund industry will try to address the issue of inefficient practices and performers in the asset management business.

- The Reserve Bank of India said Indian companies can give guarantee for overseas subsidiaries under the approval route only if the company indirectly holds 51% or more stake in the overseas arm.

* TELECOM: Supreme Court has dismissed Subramanian Swamy's plea to initiate contempt case against Finance Minister P. Chidambaram's son Karti for allegedly interfering with the probe into the Aircel-Maxis deal.
