Stocks of metal and mining companies are likely to extend the massive fall next week tracking
broader market. Markets will remain shut on Tuesday for Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti. Stocks of major
steel producers, which fell 6-16% this week, could see some more selling next week on reports that
China, unlike the previous winter, will not impose blanket ban on its steel production this winter. The Chinese Ministry of Ecology and Environment said it would let the steel plants in Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei areas continue production as long as their emissions met standards. The Nifty Metal index, which hit a one-month low yesterday and has been ending lower for two weeks, and could be headed to its third week of losses next week.
